Winter Storm Warnings are in effect for Portsmouth and other Hampton Roads localities, in addition to all of Central Virginia, Middle Peninsula, Northern Neck, and portions of Maryland. Winter Weather Advisories are in effect for the lower Peninsula, Isle of Wight, Suffolk, and inland portions of Northeast North Carolina.

A wintry mix is expected in our area close to mid day Friday which should change to all rain towards the afternoon commute or evening hours. Road conditions are expected to problematic. The snow accumulation totals in Portsmouth are projected to be in the 1" range.

Please see the latest briefing for the Friday through Saturday winter storm, attached. Snow and ice totals on pages two and three reflect the current forecast based on the wintry mix as well as temperatures.

Strong winds along the Bay and coast will gust to 40 to 50 mph. These winds will last from Friday night through Saturday into early Sunday. For marine interests, a period of storm conditions with gusts to 50 knots or more is possible late Friday into Saturday.

Some power outages are possible late Friday into Saturday as winds increase. Dominion Virginia Power will have extra crews activated beginning at 7 a.m. on Friday that will be working around the clock until the storm conditions pass.
