WINTER STORM WATCH FOR ATLANTIC COUNTY UNTIL 10:00 AM SUNDAY

The Absecon Police Department wants to advise everyone to be prepared for the impending winter storm that is going to hit the area this coming weekend. The potential for a high impact of the winter storm should hit late Friday through Saturday and residents will be affected with a wintry mix of snow, sleet and rain, gusty winds, and coastal flooding. The Absecon area could be looking at possibly 4 to 6 inches of snow. Along with the snow the area will be affected by tidal surges and the nor'easter caused flooding on the coastal area of Absecon, especially the vulnerable areas. Residents are urged to prepare for heavy winds, snow, rain and coastal flooding.
The potential for the Absecon Blvd (Rt. 30) flooding over this weekend is high along with Shore Rd, New Rd and also Mill Rd. With this being said people are advised to stay off the highways during the high tides. If these main roads do flood there will a lot of traffic congestion in the area. The Black Horse Pike in West Atlantic City will also be flooded if Absecon Blvd (Rt. 30) is flooded. If you must travel into Atlantic City we are asking residents to look into alternative routes. The Atlantic City Expressway will be the best chance if you must travel into Atlantic City but remember if there is flooding here Atlantic City will also flood. Officers will be out during the storm. We will try to update residents on our Facebook page when areas become flooded. The police department recommends that no one travels during the storm. Prepare for the worst and hope for the best!
1. If you do not ABSOLUTELY have to be on the roads, stay home. This aids in emergency vehicles moving about, reduces the risks of accidents and collateral accidents involving emergency response vehicles to your accident.
2. Park in your driveways to aid with snow plowing operations.
3. Do not pass plow trains, if you must drive.
4. If a STATE OF EMERGENCY is declared it means only essential emergency and government personnel are allowed to be on the roads.
5. 9-1-1 is for reporting emergencies only. To report power outages or other utility emergencies, contact your utility provider. Calling 9-1-1 for these matters will tie up the emergency lines. Please utilize the non-emergency number.
Please help by being part of the solution this weekend. We implore you all to be safe. Thank you for your anticipated cooperation.
