Jasper County-An early morning hit and run resulted in the death of a Missouri man.
Preliminary investigation by Master Trooper Fred Trammel revealed that at approximately 5:28 a.m., this morning, Indiana State Police received a report about a person walking on I-65 around the 208 mile marker (this is three miles north of the Rensselaer/Remington exit). Before troopers could arrive we received two reports of a person lying beside the interstate.
Troopers found a male/white south bound on I-65 at the 208 mile marker on the shoulder that appeared to be hit. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Jasper County Coroner of massive blunt force trauma. Troopers also found an abandoned 2004 Honda Accord north bound on I-65 at the 209 mile marker which belonged to the deceased and had run out of gas.
The deceased has been identified as Mark Tobiasz, 58 of Saint Charles, Missouri. It is believed by parts recovered at the scene that a Kenworth or Freightliner make of semi hit Tobiasz and left.
