Wanted Fugitive
On January 20, 2016, at approximately 3:05 pm, Campbell Police officers conducted a vehicle stop of a Ford Expedition on San Tomas Expressway between Payne Avenue and Williams Road. The Expedition was stopped for a vehicle code infraction in addition to marijuana smoke emanating from the windows.
During the initial contact, Marteis Sims, a 33 year old San Jose resident, exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Sims jumped into the canal which runs along San Tomas Expressway where he was observed throwing a handgun as he fled. Officers later recovered the semi-automatic 9mm handgun.
Sims is on parole for possession for sale of marijuana and is required to wear a GPS tracking device as a condition of his parole. As Sims was running from officers he removed the GPS device. The neighborhood in the area of Bridgeport Court, where Sims was observed fleeing, was searched by Campbell Police officers with the assistance of the San Jose Police Department K9 unit.
Sims was not located at that time, and is currently wanted on a $500,000 arrest warrant related to the incident for being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun, possession for sale of marijuana, removing a GPS tracking device while being a convicted sex offender, a parole violation, as well as other charges.
Sims is described as being 5’9” tall, weighing approximately 150 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a black short sleeved shirt with a black vest and blue jeans.
Demetric Presley, a 38 year old Campbell resident, and Sultan Banks, a 36 year old San Jose resident, were the other occupants of the vehicle. Both were booked into the Santa Clara County Jail for possession for sale of marijuana and conspiracy.
