Prosecutor Announces No Charges in Police Action Shooting
Shelbyville, IN- Today, January 28th, 2016 Shelby County Prosecutor Brad Landwerlen announced that no charges will be filed related to the September 20th, 2015 police action shooting involving Shelbyville police officers and Shelby County deputies.

*Update-Officers Involved in Police Action Shooting-Update*
Shelbyville, IN- The investigation of yesterday’s shooting of an armed suspect involving Shelbyville police officers and Shelby County deputies is continuing.
The Indiana State Police can confirm the decedent’s name is Jerrald Wright, 56, of Shelbyville and an autopsy was performed earlier today. Once the autopsy report is finalized, the cause of death will be released by the Shelby County Coroner. Any questions about the autopsy should be referred to the Shelby County Coroner’s Office at [email protected].
The Indiana State Police is also releasing the names of the officers involved in yesterday’s shooting.
Shelbyville City Police Lieutenant Jeremiah Walton, 40, a 13 year veteran and Patrolman Charles Curry, 42, a 15, year veteran and Shelby County Sheriff’s Department Corporal Michael Cleveland, 41, a 15 year veteran and Deputy Travis Maloney, 39, a 15 year veteran.
It is a common practice for officers involved in police action shootings to be placed on administrative duties or leave for a period of time. Contact the respective departments for their policy information.
Police action shootings are thoroughly investigated and can take several weeks or longer to complete. The Indiana State Police has a long standing policy of not speaking to ongoing investigations beyond providing the basic overview of the initial circumstances of an investigation. As noted in the original release, once the investigation is completed it will be submitted to the Shelby County Prosecutor’s Office for review and action as deemed appropriate by that office.
