THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN GAYLORD HAS ISSUED A LAKE EFFECT SNOW ADVISORY WHICH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 AM EST THIS MORNING.
* LOCALLY HEAVY SNOW WILL BE SEEN EARLY THIS MORNING IN PORTIONS OF NORTHEAST LOWER MICHIGAN. SNOWFALL INTENSITY IS EXPECTED TO DIMINISH WITH TIME WITH THE HEAVIEST SNOWFALL BEFORE 6 AM.
* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS 2 TO 4 INCHES ACROSS MUCH OF THE ADVISORY AREA. PORTIONS OF NORTHEAST GRAND TRAVERSE AND WESTERN KALKASKA COUNTIES INCLUDING WILLIAMSBURG AND SOUTH BOARDMAN WILL SEE 4 TO 8 INCHES OF SNOWFALL.
* SNOWFALL RATES WILL APPROACH 2 INCHES PER HOUR IN THE MOST INTENSE BANDS.
* OTHER IMPACTS...VISIBILITIES WILL BE VERY LOW INSIDE STRONGER LAKE EFFECT SNOW BANDS LESS THAN HALF A MILE IN SPOTS.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
A LAKE EFFECT SNOW ADVISORY MEANS LAKE-EFFECT SNOW IS FORECAST THAT WILL MAKE TRAVEL DIFFICULT IN SOME AREAS. LAKE-EFFECT SNOW SHOWERS TYPICALLY ALIGN THEMSELVES IN BANDS AND WILL LIKELY BE INTENSE ENOUGH TO DROP SEVERAL INCHES IN LOCALIZED AREAS. USE CAUTION WHEN TRAVELING.
