Scammers are at it again. If families receive a call from a Scott County Deputy, you may want to think twice.

Sheriff Rick Walter says scammers are calling families in the county claiming to be a Deputy Scott or a Deputy Price. This particular call came from the phone number 573-210-1749; the number checks back to a mobile phone in Potosi, MO.

On the phone, the scammer will say there's a warrant out for your arrest. They will say the only way to clear that warrant is to mail money to the sheriff's office at 131 S. New Madrid St. In Benton.

The sheriff's office does not make phone calls to individuals advising of a warrant and then request that they send money for the warrant.
