SCAM ALERT
Residents in Sea Girt continue to get calls from the following scammers posing as agents;
1. IRS
2. US Treasury
These scammers continue to target residents in Sea Girt by advising them they owe money to the federal government. These scammers will request residents to pay in the form of wire transfers or prepaid debit cards which can be purchased at pharmacies, convenience and department stores. In most cases the scammers will scare people into believing they owe the Government money and will threaten them by telling them they are coming to their house to shut utilities off or arrest them. They will also request you call them back at a number they provide and will answer as the "IRS or US Treasury Dept." making it sound somewhat believable. These scammers operate overseas which makes it very difficult to investigate and pursue.
PLEASE DO NOT SEND MONEY THROUGH WIRE TRANFERS OR THESE PREPAID DEBIT CARDS. PLEASE NOTIFY FAMILIY MEMBERS OF THESE SCAMS. ELDERLY PEOPLE OFTEN FALL VICTIM TO THESE SCAMS, SO PLEASE ADVISE YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS. CURRENTLY, THE ONLY DEFENSE TO THESE SCAMS IS DETECTION.
Thank you
