Pocatello Fire Department Report for Tuesday February 2, 2016

The department responded to 12 calls for service yesterday including calls for emergency medical services, smell of gas, and a motor vehicle accident.

Total Calls for Service this Fiscal Year (since Oct 1, 2015): 2520

Wildland Fire Danger: Low

Safety Tip:
February 1-7 is Burn Awareness Week. Take time with your family and friends to discuss how to prevent scalding and burns. Approximately 450,000 burn injuries require medical treatment each year. Prevent burns and scalds in the kitchen:

• Place objects so that they cannot be pulled down or knocked over.
• Turn pot handles away from the stove’s edge.
• Use dry mitts or potholders. Hot cookware can heat moisture in a potholder or hot pad, resulting in a scald burn.
• Wear short, close-fitting or tightly rolled sleeves when cooking.
• Have a “kid-free zone” of at least 3 feet around the stove.
