A Team Effort Has Juvenile in Custody
Montgomery County-Today, a joint effort by Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, South Montgomery School Corporation, Indiana State Police Cyber Crimes Units and EDGE Information Technologies, a cyber forensics consulting company, have one juvenile in custody for allegedly sending threatening information over internet accounts to the South Montgomery School Corporation.
The incident began the morning of January 29, 2016, when the school received a threat by email. Law enforcement was called and a search by bomb dogs from Purdue Police Department and the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office found nothing in the school. Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office called in the ISP Cyber Crimes Unit on February 1, 2016 to assist them after more threats were sent to the school. The threat continued today when the investigation produced enough evidence to question the 15 year old juvenile and place him into custody.
Preliminary charges of Intimidation and False Reporting, both Level 6 Felonies, have been brought against the juvenile who will be transported to a juvenile detention center. No other suspects are believed to be involved at this time. The investigation is continuing.
It should be noted that the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office has been working this case from the start. They started this investigation when they first received the call and worked diligently at bringing this to a close. Deputies were stationed at all of the South Montgomery Schools with assistance from the Lafayette State Police and Crawfordsville Police Department. South Montgomery School Corporation worked hand in hand with the Sheriff’s Office to bring the matter to a quick close. With the alleged suspect in custody, parents should feel comfortable to send their children to school.
This will be all the information that will be released at this time.
Suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
