Safety Tip:
February 1-7 is Burn Awareness Week. Take time with your family and friends to discuss how to prevent scalding and burns. Approximately 450,000 burn injuries require medical treatment each year. Helpful tips to prevent burns and scalds in the home:
• To prevent accidental scalding, set your water heater to 120 degrees Fahrenheit or the manufacturer’s recommended setting.
• Make a habit of placing matches, gasoline and lighters in a safe place, out of children’s reach. Avoid novelty lighters or lighters that look like toys.
• When preparing a bath for small children, remember to keep the water temperature no more than 101° F as their skin is more sensitive to heat. Have the children test the water themselves before getting in.
