SIDEWALKS - Snow & Ice Removal
With snow predicted to begin later today and continue through late in the day Tuesday, homeowners/tenants are being reminded of the sidewalk snow removal ordinances in place for both Cornwall Borough and West Cornwall Township.
The ordinances for the two municipalities are almost identical and the provisions are as follows:
...applies to the owner, occupant, or tenant of the property
...requires that snow, ice, and slush be removed from the sidewalk, to a minimum width of 3 feet, within 24 hours of the precipitation ending
...prohibits the placing or snow, ice or slush on a public street
...provides for a maximum penalty of $1000 fine + costs
Additionally, Cornwall Borough has an ordinance that makes it a violation to place, plow or push snow, ice or slush on or across and Borough street.
Cornwall Borough and West Cornwall Township officials have been tolerant due to the enormity of the January 22-23 storm, however ten days after the storm some sidewalks were still not cleared and others cleared to a width of just over a foot.
With the next snow storm now predicted, the provisions of the sidewalk snow removal ordinances will be enforced in both municipalities.
