On Monday (February 8, 2016) at approximately 12:55 p.m., Greene County Sheriff's Deputies were called to a residence located in the 4600 block of East Farm Road 48 where they located a deceased 26-year old female with a visible gunshot wound. Deputies searched for the suspect involved in the incident who had left the location prior to Deputies' arrival in a black 2002 Hyundai Elantra. Schools in Fair Grove were placed in temporary lockdown status as a safety precaution.

At approximately 2:44 p.m., Missouri State Highway Patrol Troopers and Springfield Police Officers stopped a vehicle matching the suspect description at a south side Springfield Neighborhood Market where a 37-year old black male was taken into custody without incident.

"We are still in the very early stages of this investigation. Thanks to the quick action and good teamwork by our Deputies, MSHP Troopers and Springfield Police Officers, we were all able to apprehend the suspect in this case," states Sheriff Jim Arnott. "At this time, this appears to be an isolated incident with no further danger or threat to our community."
