This evening, on the east end of town, Moonachie Police investigated a report of a diversion burglary. The elderly homeowner answered the door and confronted a white male claiming to be from the water company. Actor had a tag that read "Water Inspector" and held a vile he stated he needed to fill for testing. Homeowner and male proceeded to the kitchen and turned on the water, then appeared to place a phone call. At that time 2 or 3 other males, possibly hispanic, entered the home and held the homeowner while they stole items. They then left the area.
While police believe this was a targeted burglary, this type diversion burglary is on the rise in our area. DO NOT ALLOW ANYONE to enter your home if you are not positive they are who they claim to be. Call the police immediately to be safe.
