Jennings County Deputy Among Three Arrested for 2015 Altercation

North Vernon-Today, a Jennings County Deputy and two other Jennings County residents were arrested in connection with an August 2015 altercation near Butlerville, Indiana.

The investigation by Indiana State Police Detective Kip Main began on August 8, 2015 when the Indiana State Police were contacted to investigate an alleged battery that took place at the Butlerville Grocery Store during a memorial motorcycle ride.  The victim in this case, Jason Earl, reported that he was battered by Cody Low, age 26, North Vernon, who is also a Jennings County Deputy along with Low’s father-in-law Jeffery Royce, age 43, North Vernon, and Jeremy Littrell, age 26, Scipio.

The investigation determined that Royce allegedly became angry at Earl for urinating in front of Royce’s wife.  Royce then allegedly battered Earls.  A short time later, Low and Littrell allegedly learned about the earlier incident and confronted Earl.  This incident also led to Low and Littrell battering Earl.  Earl allegedly suffered injuries in the altercations.

At the conclusion of the investigation, this case was turned over to a special prosecutor due to Cody Low being employed as a deputy with the Jennings County Sheriff’s Department.  After reviewing the case, the special prosecutor in the case ultimately filed charges against Low, Royce, and Littrell.  All three men turned themselves into the Jennings County Sheriff’s Department without incident after warrants were issued in this case.  Low was arrested on a warrant for battery, class B misdemeanor, and public intoxication, class B misdemeanor.  Royce was arrested on a warrant for battery with bodily injury, level 6 felony.  Littrell was arrested on a warrant for strangulation, level 6 felony, and public intoxication, class B misdemeanor.  As a result of the investigation, Earl was also cited for public intoxication and will be forced to appear in court on that charge.  After being booked into the Jennings County Jail, all three men bonded out and were released.  They will soon appear in court for their initial appearance in Jennings County.

Any inquiries about Cody Low’s status as a deputy with the Jennings County Sheriff’s Department may be made to the Jennings County Sheriff’s Department.

Mug photos for all three men may be obtained by contacting the Jennings County Sheriff’s Department.
