Greene County Sheriff's Deputies investigating armed robbery, led in brief pursuit with suspect in stolen vehicle; suspect apprehended, charges to be submitted
On Wednesday, February 10, 2016, at approximately 10:14 p.m., Greene County Sheriff's Deputies were flagged down by a male in the area of West Farm Road 164 and South Scenic Avenue who stated someone had stolen his vehicle after displaying a firearm. While Deputies were speaking to him, he pointed out the suspect who was driving by in the stolen blue PT Cruiser. Deputies immediately attempted to initiate a traffic stop with the driver who led them on a brief pursuit.
The suspect struck another vehicle during the pursuit, causing damage but no injuries, in the area of South Fort Avenue and West Linwood Street before fleeing from the vehicle on foot into a wooded area. A perimeter was quickly established where Deputies searched the area with the assistance of Springfield Police Officers and one of their K9 units. The male was located after he was yelling for help, standing waist-deep in icy cold waters. He was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.
"This is exceptional work done by our Deputies and Springfield Police Officers, quickly apprehending someone who placed other drivers at risk by driving at high speeds and committing other multiple traffic violations," states Sheriff Jim Arnott. No one ̶ citizen or Law Enforcement Officer ̶ was injured during this incident.
The suspect had several outstanding felony warrants and a firearm was recovered from the vehicle. Charges will be presented to the Greene County Prosecuting Attorney's Office for further review.
