Hit and run fatality in Hollenbeck Area
Los Angeles- On February 15, 2016, at approximately 12:20 a.m., a fatal Vehicle vs. Pedestrian Hit and Run traffic collision occurred on Cesar E. Chavez Avenue just east of Chicago Avenue in Hollenbeck Area. The collision occurred when the pedestrian, a 24 year old male Hispanic, was crossing Cesar E. Chavez Avenue and struck by an unknown type of vehicle. The victim was then dragged underneath the vehicle over 100 feet. The pedestrian’s body was dislodged after the driver of the vehicle drove into a driveway behind a business on Chicago Avenue. The driver then backed out from the driveway and fled northbound on Chicago Avenue.
The victim suffered multiple blunt force trauma injuries and was taken to LAC+USC Medical Center by paramedics from LAFD. Despite lifesaving efforts, he succumbed to his injuries and pronounced dead at 12:41 a.m.
The Hit and Run vehicle possibly has damage to the left front and undercarriage of the vehicle. There is no driver description. Victim’s identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
The investigation is ongoing and being handled by Central Traffic Division Detectives.
