Indiana State Police, INDOT Hoosier Helpers and Portage Police Escort Bottled Water Convoy Going to Flint, Michigan
Portage, Porter County-The NW Indiana Truck Club partnered with local businessmen asking residents to donate cases of bottled water for residents of Flint, Michigan who have been affected by lead-contaminated water.
A convoy of sixty (60) trucks departed from the Bass Pro Shop in Portage today, Monday, February 15, 2016, around 9:30 a.m., to travel to Flint. They had approximately three thousand five hundred (3,500) cases of water collected weighing approximately 160,000 pounds.
The Indiana State Police, Portage Police and INDOT Hoosier Helpers escorted the caravan to the Michigan State line.
First Sergeant Weems, Assistant Commander of the ISP Lowell District stated, “We were honored to assist this convoy in their commendable endeavor to the people of Flint, Michigan, who have been so adversely affected by this.”
