Walk a Cop to School Southeast police officers walk children to local school.

WHAT:          The Los Angeles Police Department’s Southeast Area will inaugurate its “Walk a Cop to School” program.  Officers from Southeast Area have worked in partnership with the staff at 107th Street Elementary School.  Officers will pick up children at their homes, and walk them to school.  Officers will be discussing traffic safety tips and answering questions during their walk to school.    

 

WHEN:          Tuesday, February 16, 2016

                        7:15-7:30- Officers will pick up designated children from their homes.

                        7:30-8:00- Officers will depart the meet locations and walk children to school.

 

WHERE:       107th Street Elementary School is located at 147 E. 107th Street, Los Angeles, CA 

The meet locations are:

 

**In the 400 Block of E. 105th Street.  Officers will door knock various residences and pick up children for school.

 

Meet location #1

105th Street and Main Street.  Parents and children will meet and walk to school with LAPD Officers.

Meet location #2

107th Street and San Pedro Street.  Parents and children will meet and walk to school with LAPD Officers.

 

**Media wanting to film officers knocking on the doors of children’s homes should meet at 105th Street and Avalon at 7:00 am.**

 

WHO:             LAPD Captain Lee Sands, Southeast Area Patrol Commanding Officer

Los Angeles Unified School District Principal Katherine Nelson, 107th Street Elementary School

                                 

WHY:             The program is being established as part of the continuing community outreach to improve traffic safety awareness for children and the community.

 

MEDIA PARKING   Media is encouraged to park around the school.
