UPDATE: The suspect, Mary Grace Trinidad, arrested yesterday for attempted murder and child abandonment remains in the hospital for continued treatment. Her release date from the hospital remains unknown.
Current condition of the newborn baby is not available (HIPAA).
The West Covina Police Department is releasing a booking photo of the suspect from a January 3, 2016 arrest made by this department for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Also being released is the video obtained from the Subway Restaurant showing the suspect entering the location’s restroom (0807 hrs) and exiting 10 minutes later (0817 hrs), leaving out the front doors.
The photo and video are being released to bring more awareness to the Safe Surrender Baby Law. The law’s intent is to save lives of newborn infants at risk of abandonment by encouraging parents or persons with lawful custody to safely surrender the infant within 72 hours of birth, with no questions asked.
