Two suspects were arrested for possession of stolen property

INCIDENT: PC 496 – Possession of Stolen Property
LOCATION: 25000 block of Agate Rd, Lenwood
SUSPECT(S): Derrick S McLaughlin, 35, Lenwood
James D. Jones, 27, Barstow
SUMMARY:
On February 10, 2016 Barstow Station deputies responded to suspicious circumstances in the 25000 block of Agate Road in the community of Lenwood. Once on scene, Deputy Melody Whitecloud and Sergeant James Evans contacted Derrick McLaughlin, a 35 year old resident of the Lenwood area. McLaughlin was observed attempting to hide a 2015 Ford Mustang by piling wood on top of it to simulate a large wood pile. The mustang had several major components removed from it, and a registration check confirmed it was a reported stolen vehicle from the Victorville area. Deputy Whitecloud arrested McLaughlin for possession of stolen property. Through investigation, Deputy Whitecloud identified James Jones, 27 years old from Barstow, as a second suspect, however, Jones was avoiding contact with law enforcement making it difficult to locate him.
On February 17,2016, Sergeant James Evans and Deputy Randy Duran located Jones at a hotel in the City of Barstow. Jones was arrested and booked for Possession of Stolen Property. Hanna Elliot, Jones’s girlfriend, was also contacted and subsequently arrested for being under the influence of illegal drugs.
All suspects were booked at the Barstow jail.
