On Thursday, February 18, 2016, at approximately 4:00 PM, Sausalito Police Officer Davin Rose was performing a civil stand by in the 600 block of Bridgeway as a 26 year old was attempting to obtain his vehicle from his parents’ possession. The parents had taken the vehicle from their joint residence in El Cerrito without his permission after a family dispute. The vehicle was reportedly parked near the parents’ place of business in the 600 block of Bridgeway.

Upon Officer Rose’s arrival, the son’s vehicle was at the location however the father, Shalom Makaran (53 year old resident of El Cerrito), was not. While Officer Rose was speaking to other family members about the matter, Makaran drove up to the business in another vehicle. While driving, Makaran saw his son walking on Bridgeway. Makaran then turned the vehicle towards his son and accelerated, striking him. The collision caused the son the go up onto the vehicle’s hood then fall onto the ground. The son was not injured in the collision.

After witnessing the entire incident, Officer Rose took Makaran into custody. Makaran was arrested for 245(A)(4) PC- Assault By Means of Force Likely To Produce Great Bodily Injury and booked into the Marin County Jail. Makaran has subsequently posted a $50,000 bail and was released from Jail.
