POP Unit Takes Down Identity Theft Duo
On Saturday, February 20, 2016, at about 11:29 P.M., members of the Anderson Police Department’s Problem Oriented Policing Unit (P.O.P.), contacted 25 year old, Nicole Renee Elvers of Santa Clara County and her brother, 24 year old, Christopher Michael Elvers of Shasta County. The two were contacted sitting in a rental car in the parking-lot of the River Garden Apartment Complex in Anderson after P.O.P. units spotted the two acting suspiciously.
Upon contacting the two, Nicole Renee Elvers was found to be on felony probation out of Santa Clara County for multiple counts of credit card fraud and identity theft. Christopher Michael Elvers was well known to police and had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. During a search of the rental vehicle, several articles of forgery instruments including credit card blanks, card readers, laptops and credit card numbers were discovered.
Articles of indicia related to the credit card forgery equipment were found on both Nicole and Christopher’s person and inside the vehicle in multiple locations. Nicole Renee Elvers was also found to possess methamphetamine and a firearm was located in the rental vehicle that Christopher Elvers told police was stolen from his neighbor.
Nicole Elvers and Christopher Elvers were subsequently brought back to the Anderson Police Department for questioning and then booked at the Shasta County Jail for being felons in possession of a firearm, possession of forged or counterfeit access cards, identity theft and conspiracy. Additional felony charges will be filed with the Shasta County District Attorney.
