The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Parks Bureau is requesting public input for the OHPAL Program

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Parks Bureau is requesting public input for the 2017 State Off-Highway Motor Vehicle (OHV) Green Sticker funding/proposal submission. This coming year the State of California once again has funds available thru the Green Sticker program for Education, Operation and Maintenance, Law Enforcement and Restoration Projects. The Sheriff’s Department’s Parks Bureau will be submitting an OHV grant application for certain sections of this funding to facilitate an educational program known as the Off-Highway Police Activities League (OHPAL) Program. The program provides instruction to at-risk or underprivileged youths in the safe and legal operation of All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs). The program also stresses “Tread Lightly” principles to help preserve the environment and reduce resource damage. As part of the application process, the Sheriff’s Department is requesting public input regarding the viability and necessity of the program. Each year the State of California makes funding available through the California OHV Grants Program through a competitive grant application process. The grants program provides financial assistance to eligible agencies and organizations (federal, city, county, non-profit, etc.) that develop, maintain, operate, expand, support, or contribute to well-managed, high-quality, OHV recreation areas.

The Public Comment period will be from March 8, 2016, and continue through April 4, 2016.   If you would like to view the grant application online, and/or provide comment, please visit the California State OHV Grant website at http://olga.ohv.parks.ca.gov/egrams_ohmvr/user/home.aspx?Mode=Logout .
