Kern County Sheriff's Office Crime Prevention Unit Recognizes February as Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month

Every year, approximately 1.5 million high school students nationwide experience physical abuse from a dating partner. It is also known that 3 in 4 parents have never talked to their children about domestic violence. In light of these alarming facts, every year during the month of February advocates join efforts to raise awareness about dating violence, highlight promising practices, and encourage communities to get involved.

As one of the many community programs that we offer, the KCSO Crime Prevention Unit provides both literature and public presentations on the topic of Teen Dating Violence.  One of our most requested programs, The Teen Dating Violence Prevention presentation can be given free of cost to middle schools, high schools, parent groups, school staff, and combined teen/parent groups.  It is our goal to inform and educate Kern County on important issues such as Teen Dating Violence so Kern County families can prevent teen dating violence - in addition to being aware of the valuable resources available to teens and families.

Bringing up the topic of Teen Dating Violence can be difficult. For ideas on discussion starters or great resources such as our "Abusive Relationship Quiz", please visit www.kernsheriff.com, and click on the "KCSO links" tab on the bottom right to view Crime Prevention information.
