Greene County Sheriff Arnott and Circuit Clerk Tom Barr warn public of scam
The Greene County Sheriff's Office and the Circuit Clerk's Office were recently made aware of a phone scam, targeting Greene County citizens. Citizens received a call from a phone number identified via Caller ID as (417) 868-4074 which is the phone number for the Circuit Clerk's Office. The caller would claim to be an employee and inform the citizen of a judgment awarded to Plaintiff National Cash, advising a warrant was issued in response to non-payment of said judgment. The caller also threatened Greene County Sheriff's Deputies would arrive at their current address and make an arrest if a payment was not made to National Cash by 2:00 p.m. that day. They were also provided a contact number for payment at (866) 285-0664.
"If you receive a phone call asking you send money and it sounds suspicious, please call either the Sheriff's Office or the Circuit Clerk's Office first to verify its legitimacy," states Sheriff Arnott. "We don't want to see anyone become a victim of a scam based on fear."
"We were able to help this concerned citizen by verifying the facts, which is no such judgment or warrant existed, potentially saving them hundreds if not thousands of dollars," states Circuit Clerk Tom Barr who advises checking on Case.net or by calling their office as well.
