Fatal Traffic Collision

On Feb. 28, at about 3:42 a.m., the Corona Police Department responded to the 1200 Block of E. Sixth St. reference a vehicle vs. a tree collision.

Upon arrival, officers found a maroon Toyota Corolla with serious collision damage and a female passenger, later identified as Melissa Marie Rodriguez a 38-year-old of Colton, who was unconscious and not breathing.

The initial investigation indicates that the Toyota was heading Eastbound on E. Sixth St. and, for an unknown reason, drifted to the left and drove up onto the center median where it struck a tree. The Rodriguez was not wearing a seatbelt and suffered multiple major injuries.

The initial responding officers performed lifesaving efforts on Rodriguez until firefighters arrived and took over, but she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver was uninjured and no arrests or traffic citations have been issued at this time. The case remains under investigation and is being handled by the Corona Police Department's Collision Response Team.
