Pedestrian Struck and Killed Near Greensburg
Greensburg-Yesterday, at approximately 7:15 p.m., the Indiana State Police responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle on Moscow Road at the intersection of Veterans Way. The collision resulted in the pedestrian succumbing to her injuries late last night.
The initial investigation by Trooper Matt Holley indicated a gray 2008 Mercury passenger car, being driven by Rosemary Schroeder, age 94, Greensburg, Indiana was traveling northbound on Moscow Road approaching Veterans Way. The investigation determined that the pedestrian, Dorothy L. Whitmore, age 20, Greensburg, Indiana was running westbound along Veterans Way when she entered the intersection into the path of Schroeder’s vehicle. The collision caused Whitmore to suffer head and other internal injuries. She was flown by medical hospital to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis where she later passed away as a result of the injuries.
Schroeder has cooperated with investigators. Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
The Whitmore family has been notified.
Trp. Holley was assisted by the Greensburg Police Department, Decatur County Sheriff’s Department, Decatur County EMS, and Greensburg Fire Department.
