The CERT Program is designed to prepare you to help yourself, your family, and your neighbors in an emergency.
Following a major disaster, police, fire and medical professionals may not be able to fully meet the demand of a large disaster. Citizens may have to rely on each other to meet their immediate lifesaving and life sustaining needs and the City of Downey’s Community Emergency Response Team (C.E.R.T.) program was developed to provide basic training in safety and lifesaving skills for the general public.

Who can join CERT? Anyone 18 years of age or older who is interested in helping his or her community in preparing for a disaster and provide assistance afterward.
