Truck Driver Arrested for Meth
Richmond – A truck driver from Georgia was arrested this morning, after he was found in possession of narcotics at the Richmond I-70 scales. The events started at the scale house, located at the 148 mile marker of I-70 west bound, around 10:30 a.m. as Motor Carrier Inspectors were weighing trucks.
After finding an overweight truck, they had the driver park and come into the scale house. That driver, Clarence Boyd, age 57 of Augusta, Georgia, came into the scale house angry and acting erratic. Trooper Aaron Edwards was nearby and went to the scale facility to assist.
A Wayne County Sheriff’s Department K-9 Unit was also nearby and arrived to assist. After doing an open air search of the semi and box trailer Boyd was driving, the dog indicated the presence of narcotics in the cab. A search of the truck cab turned up a small amount of marijuana.
Trooper Edwards transported Boyd to the Wayne County Jail charging him with Possession of Marijuana with a Prior Conviction, Class “A” Misdemeanor. While at the jail a more thorough search of Boyd found he was also attempting to conceal a powder believed to be Methamphetamine.
Boyd was additionally charged with Possession of Methamphetamine, Level 6 Felony, and Trafficking With An Inmate, (for attempting to take the powder into the jail,) Level 5 Felony. He was lodged in the Wayne County Jail. The truck, registered to US Express out of Oklahoma, was impounded until the company could send a CDL driver to pick it up.
