New York Couple Arrested for Identity Deception and Fraud
Muncie – A traffic stop last night in Muncie led to the arrest of a couple from New York on felony charges of Identity Deception and Fraud. Trooper Sam Cook stopped the 2015 Chevrolet Cruz on SR 332, in the area of CR 700 W. about 8 p.m. last evening for a traffic violation.
After making contact with the driver, Isidro Miguel Rodriguez, age 28 of New York, New York, and his female passenger, Cook became suspicious. A Delaware County Sheriff’s Department K-9 Unit was nearby, and was summoned to do a walk around search of the outside of the vehicle. The dog indicated to the presence of contraband in the vehicle.
While a search of the vehicle didn’t turn up drugs, it did turn up new unopened iPhones, false identifications and credit cards with false names on them. After getting a consent to search, troopers searched the hotel room where the couple was staying at the Marriot, located at 4011 West Bethel in Muncie. There they located more new iPhones that were fraudulently purchased.
Troopers arrested Rodriguez and his girlfriend, Lenni Joselynna Cruz, age 23, also of New York, New York, and charged them both with 6 counts of Identity Deception. Level 6 Felony, and 6 counts of Fraud, Level 6 Felony. Both were lodged in the Delaware County Jail.
Trooper Cook was assisted in his investigation by ISP Sergeant Dave Clayton and Troopers John Clawson and Lee Tinch, and Deputies from the Delaware County Sheriff’s Department.
All Suspects Are Presumed Innocent Until Proven Guilty in a Court of Law.
