INCIDENT: Kidnapping, False Imprisonment
LOCATION: Pilot Truck Stop, Kramer Junction, Barstow Station area
SUSPECT(S): Zachary Papp, 25 years
VICTIM(S): Confidential

SUMMARY: On March 3, 2016 at approximately 9:00 A.M., Sheriff’s Dispatch received a 911 call from a female reporting she and her two children were kidnapped from the Hemet area and held at gunpoint by her boyfriend Zachary Papp. She said Papp threatened to take her and the children to Reno, Nevada.

At one point, Papp pulled into the Pilot Truck Stop on US 395 at Kramer Junction, Barstow CA, where he stopped the vehicle and stepped out momentarily. This gave the victim the opportunity to jump in the driver’s seat and escape with her children. The victim called 911 while fleeing south on US 395 toward the city of Adelanto. She ultimately drove to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Victor Valley Station, in Adelanto, and provided additional information.

Barstow deputies immediately responded to the Kramer Junction location to look for the suspect. Deputy Robbie Moore located Papp at Kramer Junction and arrested him without incident. During Deputy Moore’s investigation, the gun allegedly used in the crime was recovered.

Papp was booked at the High Desert Detention Center on charges of Kidnapping and False Imprisonment, with a $250,000.00 bail.

The victims were not injured during this incident.
