SAUSALITO POLICE ARREST SUBJECT ON WARRANT FOR STEALING FROM AN ELDER
On Thursday, March 3, 2016, at approximately 10:42 PM, Sausalito Police Corporal Brian Mather and Detective Nick White arrested Fatima Medina-Fernandez at her residence in Daly City for a $200,000 warrant.
This case originated in May of 2013 when susicipicous bank transactions caused a Charles Schwab fraud investigator to contact a member of the victim’s family. The Sausalito Police Department’s investigation revealed that Medina-Fernandez (31 years) and her mother, Martha Fernandez (52 years) had stolen over $200,000 from a 94 year old resident of Sausalito’s bank account through unauthorized transactions over a two year period. Medina-Fernandez and Fernandez and had been working for as care-givers for the victim and when the thefts occurred. After the completion of the investigation, the Sausalito Police Department obtained arrest warrants for Medina-Fernandez and Fernandez in August 2014.
Medina-Fernandez and Fernandez’s employment was terminated when the thefts were discovered and they moved residences prior to the warrants being issued. Since August 2014, the Sausalito Police Department has been actively searching for Medina-Fernandez and Fernandez. When investigation revealed a possible addresss for Medina-Fernandez in San Francisco, officers attempted to contact her there but discovered she had recently moved. During the attempt, officers were able to obtain information that lead them to Medina-Fenernadez’s address in Daly City where she was taken into custody and subequently transported to the Marin County Jail where she is currently being held.
