INCIDENT: Male Arrested for Attempted Murder at Serrano Campground
LOCATION: Serrano Campground, San Bernardino National Forest (Near Big Bear City)
SUSPECT: Chan Kim, 20-year-old male
VICTIM: Shervin Mostashari, 19-year-old male
SUMMARY:
Shortly after 10:00 a.m. today, deputies from the Big Bear Sheriff’s Station responded to a reported fight at Serrano Campground near Big Bear City. Upon arrival, deputies made contact with the involved parties and determined that five male adults who had been camping together got into a verbal argument at the campsite. The argument escalated and turned physical when one of the males, identified as Chan Kim, picked up a shovel and hit the victim, Shervin Mostashari, in the ear. Chan then made threatening statements and stabbed the victim multiple times in the torso with a pocketknife.
As a result of the altercation, the victim sustained a moderate cut to his ear and superficial lacerations to his torso through the several layers of heavy clothing he was wearing. The victim refused medical attention at the scene, and later drove himself to Bear Valley Community Hospital for treatment.
Suspect Kim was detained without incident and booked into the Big Bear Jail on a felony charge of attempted murder. Chan Kim remains in custody in lieu of $1 million bail. An arraignment hearing in this matter has been set for March 11, 2016 in San Bernardino County Superior Court.
