Off Duty Troopers Make Drug Arrest on I-69
Delaware County – Last evening, just before 7 p.m., Bloomington Trooper Richard Klun was off duty and driving his State Police fully marked car north on I-69 around the 237 mile marker in Delaware County. Trooper Klun was accompanied by off duty Senior Trooper Ryan White, as well as his K-9 partner.
The two men were driving north bound when they saw a car in front of them change lanes without a signal, causing another vehicle to make an evasive maneuver leaving the roadway. Klun stopped the car that made the unsafe lane change, a black Malibu, and made contact with the driver, Danielle J. Preston, age 25 of Detroit Michigan.
After speaking with the driver, Klun became suspicious and deployed his K-9 to do a free-air walk around search of the outside of the vehicle. The dog indicated the presence of narcotics in the vehicle. Further investigation by Troopers Klun and White turned up Marijuana and a pill believed to be a Schedule I controlled substance, Alprazolam, without a prescription.
Danielle Preston was lodged in the Delaware County Jail charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, Class “A” Misdemeanor, Possession of Marijuana, Class “B” Misdemeanor, as well as Driving While Suspended with a prior conviction, Class “A” Misdemeanor.
Three small children that were in the car with Preston were turned over to Delaware County Division of Child Services. Pendleton Trooper Lee Tinch assisted Troopers Klun and White at the scene.
