Starting Thursday through Monday, rain is predicted to be heavy at times in different parts of the county. Santa Rosa Junior College campuses and locations will remain open unless they are not safe. We are not anticipating any closures at this time. If that changes, we will update you.

We encourage students, faculty and staff to take care of themselves, their families, and their homes, to stay safe and use common sense. Please use your best judgment in navigating roadways.

If the College is open and you cannot get to work safely:
Any employees who choose not to come to work due to the adverse weather conditions should contact their supervising administrators and let them know. Those employees will need to use their own personal time to cover any time off.

Faculty members: if you are unable to get to campus on a day that the College is open, it is very important for you to contact your department chair and administrative assistant, and to email students in their cubby.

Petaluma faculty should report absences to Faculty Support at [email protected] or call 778-2456.

All employees: During an emergency, all employees can be activated as disaster service workers. Certain categories of employees may be needed to deal with essential operations. If you're unclear whether your presence is needed, contact your supervisor.

Safety Around the District
• Be alert to your surroundings, especially slippery areas, falling debris, downed power lines, etc.
• Be mindful of the high wind (especially gusts) when outdoors, entering/exiting buildings or vehicles etc.
• Observe any barricades or taped off zones.

Safe Driving Tips (California Highway Patrol)
• Freeways will often flood nearest to the roadway edges, especially on elevated roadways with walls on both sides. Avoid the outside lanes, especially at night.
• Never drive through standing water. You never know how deep the water is, and what may be lurking beneath the surface.
• The primary method of avoiding collisions during severe weather is to slow down. Slower speeds prevent hydroplaning, which often leads to crashes. Extra following distance will also help if someone crashes ahead.
• Whenever your windshield wipers are on, your headlights should be as well. Often, vehicles are not visible without head and taillights.
• Prepare your vehicle now. Replace windshield wipers if necessary, check your brakes and your fluids. The worst time to break down is during heavy weather. Towing services are usually overwhelmed with collisions, and response times are delayed.
• If you experience an emergency on the freeway, call 9-1-1 from your mobile phone. Please be aware that CHP response times are often delayed due to the high volume of calls. If you experience a minor collision, please move out of the roadway as soon as possible to prevent secondary collisions and to keep our roadways moving!
