State Police Detectives Investigate Fatal Shooting in Cannelton; Suspect At-Large

Perry County – Today at approximately 11:50 a.m., Indiana State Police and Perry County Sheriff’s Department responded to a fatal shooting at a residence located at 4346 Bell Hollow Road, Cannelton.

Preliminary investigation revealed Stacy Matheny, 47, of Cannelton, drove to the residence at 4346 Bell Hollow Road and confronted a male outside the residence. After a brief verbal altercation, Matheny allegedly pulled a handgun and fatally shot the male. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Perry County Coroner. The male was visiting the person who resides at the residence when this incident occurred.

Matheny left the scene driving a green 2001 Ford Explorer. Matheny’s father is possibly in the vehicle. Investigating officers believe it’s possible that he may be in the Hopkins County, KY area. Matheny should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information concerning his whereabouts are encouraged to contact their local police or the Indiana State Police immediately. Anyone with information can remain anonymous.
