PRESS RELEASE FOR THE WEEK OF
March 7, 2016 – March 13, 2016

Any charges reported in this press release are merely accusations
and the Defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Family Disturbance: A family member called to report their parents were having an altercation. Officers responded and provided the Father a ride to a friend’s house. The parties were separated for the night.

Found Property: A Samsung smart phone was found on Robe River Dr and dropped off at the Police Department. If you have lost your phone, call the Police Department with descriptors to claim.

Motor Vehicle Accident-Damage: A motor vehicle accident was reported at MP 26 on the Richardson Highway. The vehicle was off the roadway near the river, but no one appeared to be injured. Glennallen Alaska State Troopers responded and the Towing Company was contacted.

Summonsed: John Douglas Sanders, DOB 03/12/96, of Tok was issued a citation for failure to stop for school bus red light.

Welfare check: A welfare check was requested on an individual who had not been seen in 10 days. Officers made contact with the individual who was fine.

Assist EMS Crew: Officer’s assisted EMS crews for a woman that was choking at the High School.

ETOH Pedestrian: An intoxicated pedestrian was seen walking on the side of the road on the Richardson Highway. An Officer located him and provided a ride to his residence.

Trespassing: An individual was trespassed from a local business.

Disturbance Other: A caller reported a juvenile was refusing to leave the pool and go home with her father. An Officer spoke with both parties and the girl went home with her father without further incident.

Motor Vehicle Accident-Damage: A vehicle slid into a sign next to the basketball hoops and knocked it over at Gilson Middle School. No further information was provided.

Citizen Assist: A woman called to report that her power had been out for three hours. No power outage in the area. An Officer responded to the area and was able to assist with getting the power back on.

Traffic Complaint: A report of a tan pickup truck pulling a 10-11 foot trailer with trash on it that was losing trash on the roadway was received. An Officer responded to the area but did not see the vehicle or trash on the roadway.

Problems with Neighbors: A person complained about their neighbor’s dogs encroaching on their property and defecating. They stated “it’s starting to stink”. The Animal Control Officer responded to the area and spoke with the neighbor.

Public Speaking/Appearance: An Officer gave Alice Training to 10 people.

Fish & Game: A report of a person feeding Eagles was received. The Animal Control Officer went to speak with the individual. The resident was not home so note and ordinance information was left at the residence.

Possible Drunk Driver: A local business reported a person smelling of alcohol had left their premises and drove away. An Officer responded to the area but was unable to locate a vehicle matching the description.

Litter, Pollution, Public Health: While on patrol the Animal Control Officer noticed trash not in the proper container and left a door knocker with ordinance information at the residence.

Animal Impound: A large black lab was reported in the cottonwood area. The Animal Control Officer located the dog and impounded it.

Agency Assist: The local Juvenile Probation Officer requested an Officer’s assistance.

Aggressive Animal: A woman reported a pit bill bit her on the wrist while she was visiting a friend. This case is currently under investigation.

Motor Vehicle Accident-Damage: A person called to report that their vehicle was hit in the Post Office parking lot. An Officer responded, took photos and issued par forms to both drivers.

Unattended Death: Valdez Dispatch received a call regarding an unattended death in a residence.

Motor Vehicle Accident – Damage: A man reported that he backed into someone’s vehicle at the veterinary clinic parking lot. He made contact with the party he hit, gave them his information and left the scene. No Police response was requested.

Open Door: A report of a door propped open and lights on in a maintenance building was received. Nothing was reported missing, co-workers stated they did not leave the door open or lights on. This case is currently under investigation.

Possible Drunk Driver: A caller reported a dark green pickup truck in front of him crossing over the center line at least three times and thinks the driver may be driving drunk. An Officer responded to the area and found the subject was trying to pick up his spilled coffee cup, negative for alcohol, coffee all over pants and floorboards. No further action required.

Suspicious Vehicle: A report of a light blue minivan with two white males ‘scoping’ out a residence was reported. One of the men identified himself as an employee from Hardy Meats but the van did not have any visible decals. The vehicle had left the area before the Officer’s arrived.

Agency Assistance: Valdez Police Department was requested to help the Kenai Judicial Services with serving a Domestic Violence Protective Order to an individual believed to be in Valdez.

Oil Spill: A caller reported an oil sheen on the street. An Officer responded to the area and found slight oil sheen in the water on the side of the road that appeared to be melt water. No further action required.

Assault Simple: A woman reported an assault and requested to speak with an Officer. Officers responded and spoke with all parties involved. This case is still under investigation.

Fireworks: A report of gunshots heard in the area of the Best Western was reported. Officers responded and questioned several people that were in the area. One witness saw a large dark colored pickup drive by and throw fireworks out the window. The vehicle was not located and no further action was needed.

Protective Order Domestic Violence: A long term Protective order was served.

Traffic Hazard: A caller reported a box in the middle of the outbound land on the Richardson highway in front of the Acres. An Officer responded to the area and removed it from the roadway.

Agency Assistance: A routine felony check was done on an individual for a gun sale.

Order to Show Cause: The Valdez Police Department received numerous Orders to Show Cause paperwork from the Valdez Courts for Failure to Appear for Jury Duty. Just a reminder it is your civic duty to report for Jury duty and if you do not, you may be issued an Order to Show Cause and could possibly be fined.

Disturbance: An individual called to request assistance. He was crashing at his buddy’s house, they had a disagreement and the home owner wanted him to leave. Officers responded to the scene spoke with both parties who agreed to that all was good now. Officers had to return to the residence a short time later and had to separate the two men for the night.

Unattended Death: Valdez Dispatch received a call regarding an unattended death.

Open Door: A caller reported that the doors by the ATM machine are not locked at First National Bank. An Officer responded to the scene and walked thru the building. No one was in the bank and someone was contacted to lock the doors.

Suspicious Person: Someone called to report people outside of the teen center acting suspicious. An Officer responded to the area and spoke with several people who all appeared to be fine.

Possible Drunk Driver: A caller reported a person leaving the bar that should not be driving. An Officer responded to the area and could not locate a vehicle matching the description given by the caller.

Computer Fraud: A caller reported his cell phone, xbox and PS3 had been hacked and someone is being ‘aggressive’ towards him via the hacking. Dispatch advised him that he could bring his phone to Valdez Police Department for CCU lab to check out. He was advised to contact his phone provider for advice on how to back up his phone and hard reset.

Motor Vehicle Accident – Injury: A caller reported a single vehicle roll over at mile post 16. Officers responded to the scene along with EMS crews and a Tow Truck.

Motor Vehicle Accident – Hit and Run: A caller reported that they heard a vehicle pull into the driveway then heard a crashing sound and a vehicle screeching away. A dark colored SUV left the area heading east. The vehicle that was hit had damage to the rear. Officers were able to locate the vehicle that caused the damage and subsequently impounded the vehicle due to lack of cooperation from the owner.
