IRS scams have been around for years but recently they are on the rise. The WFPD has received several calls in the last few days from complainants stating that they are receiving calls from individuals claiming to be with the IRS. The scammers are asking for personal information related to the persons tax returns. Some callers are even being threatened with jail time if they do not comply with the information request.
Please keep in mind that the IRS will never call you unless you have reached out to them first. Please be careful and avoid sharing personal information over the phone or online.
