We are expecting critical fire weather conditions this afternoon, Wednesday, March 16th. Westerly winds this afternoon will be sustained around 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph. Winds will be stronger across northeast Missouri, with wind gusts up to 40 mph, and a Wind Advisory has been issued for the northeast corner of the area. With temperatures warming into the 60s, humidity values may fall to as low as 20%. This combination will lead to a very high fire danger, and a Red Flag Warning has been issued for areas along and south of Highway 36. Conditions should improve later this evening as wind speeds decrease and humidity values recover.
