DATE OF RELEASE: March 21, 2015
On March 21, 2016 at about 11:00 a.m., West Covina PD Officers working a 2-man car spotted the suspect wanted for warrants in front of his residence located on the 1800 block of Jennifer Place, West Covina. When the officers attempted to make contact with him, the suspect looked at the officers, turned and ran. Officers chased the suspect into his home and out the rear door into the backyard. When the suspect began fighting with the officers, a large dog in that yard attacked one of the officers, biting him on the leg. During the struggle, the dog then charged the 2nd officer forcing him to fire his duty weapon striking the dog. The dog succumbed to his injuries. The suspect was then taken into custody without further incident.
No one else was injured during the incident.
The suspect has been identified as Ramon Cardenas Lopez, 38 of West Covina. He was arrested for Battery upon a peace officer and resisting arrest. He was also booked for outstanding warrants for resisting arrest on a previous case, drug possession and driving on a suspended license. Total bail is $85,000.00. He is scheduled to appear at West Covina Superior Court on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at 8:30 am.
