PRESS RELEASE: Livermore Half Marathon

LIVERMORE HALF MARATHON 2016

The Livermore Police Department wants to alert the community to expected traffic delays on the morning of Saturday March 26, 2016 when the third annual Livermore Half Marathon will take place. The race starts at 8:00 a.m. in downtown Livermore and should conclude by 11:00 a.m. Over 3000 runners are anticipated for this year’s Livermore Half Marathon. In the past, runners from across the country representing over 25 different states have registered and competed in the race.

The race course will travel south from the downtown on South “L” Street over the Arroyo Bridge and continue south on Arroyo Road. The runners will then turn west on Concannon Blvd. to Holmes Street where they will turn and travel south on Holmes Street to Wetmore Road. The race will turn onto Wetmore Road and then enter Sycamore Grove Park. The runners will exit the park onto Arroyo Road where they will travel north to Wetmore Road. The race will then turn onto running trails before winding through Robertson Park and entering back onto South “L” Street at the Arroyo Bridge. The runners will travel north on South “L” Street before turning east on Second Street to McLeod Street, and then through the finish line on First Street. The first runner is expected to be at the finish line around 9am, and all runners should be off the course by 11 am.

Fourth Street, South “L” Street, and College Avenue will experience significant traffic delays during the race. The Police Department advises motorists to use Railroad Avenue as an alternative route around the Downtown area. Several streets will be closed during the event including; First Street from Maple Street to South “L” Street, S. Livermore Avenue between Railroad Avenue and Third Street, Second Street from Maple Street to South “L” Street, South “L” Street from Second Street to Arroyo Road, the southbound lane of Arroyo Road from the Arroyo Bridge to Concannon Blvd, the #2 lane of eastbound Concannon Blvd. between Arroyo Road and Holmes Street, the #2 lane of northbound Holmes Street from Concannon Blvd. to Wetmore Road, and Wetmore Rd between Holmes St and Arroyo Rd. When these roadways are closed, traffic will not be able to cross over them.

The Livermore Police Department asks that you share this information with anyone planning to drive near downtown Livermore on Saturday March 26th and that everyone plan accordingly to minimize being disrupted by the race.

Questions regarding traffic control for the race can be sent to the Livermore Police Department-Public Information Officer line at (925) 371-4777.
