Announces an Arrest for:
Assault on a Government Official, Carrying a Concealed Firearm, Maintaining a Vehicle for a Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of Marijuana, Possession with Intent to Sell/Deliver Marijuana, Resisting an Officer and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon

The Southern Pines Police Department announces the arrest of Dayeshandre Syntrell Kemp, 20 years of age, of Southern Pines, North Carolina on the above charges. This arrest stems from an investigation conducted by the Patrol Division of the Southern Pines Police Department.

On March 22, 2016, at approximately 10:05 pm, Dayeshandre Syntrell Kemp, was stopped by the Southern Pines Police Department for a motor vehicle violation in the 1100 block of West Morganton Road. The investigating officer, Officer Clark Lynn, detected a strong smell of marijuana coming for the stopped vehicle. During this traffic stop, Dayeshandre Syntrell Kemp stepped from the vehicle and assaulted Officer Lynn attempting to flee. During the ensuing struggle with the officer, Dayeshandre Syntrell Kemp was reaching into his waistband. Officer Kevin Dean arrived on the scene to assist Officer Lynn. While Dayeshandre Syntrell Kemp was resisting and being combative with both Officer Lynn and Officer Dean with his hands in his front waistband, a loaded .25 caliber firearm, along with 21 grams of marijuana fell from Dayeshandre Syntrell Kemp’s waistband. Dayeshandre Syntrell Kemp has six prior felony convictions.

Chief Robert Temme made the following statement with regards to this arrest: “Our officers distinguished themselves by acting with great courage and sound judgement. Our community should be extremely proud of the Southern Pines Police once again.”

Dayeshandre Syntrell Kemp appeared before a Moore County Magistrate and was incarcerated in the Moore County Detention Center under $35,000.00 secured bond pending a court appearance on April 12, 2016, in Moore County District Court.
