Sikeston man arrested for firearm incident at school
Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter said a Sikeston man has charged in connection with displaying a firearm at a school.
Jeffrey Kyle Grubbs (45) Sikeston, has been charged with unlawful use of a weapon and endangering the welfare of a child.
Walter said Grubbs, who currently has a CCW permit attended a 4H school activity at Kelly School Monday evening as a volunteer. During the event it’s alleged that Grubbs used the handle of a handgun to push a tack into a piece of wood. Grubbs admitted initially attempting the task when the handgun was loaded but realized this was unsafe so he unloaded the handgun and continued with the task. It was reported that there were two children ages 6 and 9 in the immediate area during the incident. Walter said there was multiple people the general area that was completely unaware of the incident.
Walter said school officials were made aware of the incident and immediately contacted his office. Officers with the Scott County Sheriff’s Office working with the Kelly School Resource Officer investigated the incident.
Grubbs was arrested Tuesday morning and released by the court on a criminal summons.
