What's That Noise?
Is it Too Late to Buy Road Side Assistance?
Picture this, you running late for work and this happens…either a flat tire or you forgot to put gas in the car the night before. Regardless of the issue, becoming stranded on the freeway is no place to be, day or night. Safety should be your number one concern at this time.
Here are few tips to follow in case you become stranded on the freeway:
• Drive your car to the right shoulder to avoid being hit by traffic
and keep your seat belt on.
• If you exit your vehicle, watch for traffic and find a safe place to wait such as, behind a guardrail or up an embankment.
• If you are stuck in a traffic lane or center divide, turn on your hazard lights on and dial 9-1-1.
• Use a cellphone or a call box to arrange for roadside assistance.
• Exit the freeway when possible.
It’s always a good idea to make sure that your car has the basic essentials if you find yourself stranded on the side of the road. Check the trunk of the car for the appropriate spare tire and more importantly that it has air in it. You should inspect your spare tire every six months. Make sure your car is properly equipped with a car jack and a lug wrench to change your tire. If you have aftermarket wheels or wheel locks, ensure you have the correct equipment needed.
Even a newer car can break down. Going that extra mile to be better prepared can go a long way. Putting together a small emergency kit in your vehicle can help you in your time of need. Some items to consider would be a first aid kit, flashlight, flares, jumper cables and some bottled water. You can securely stow this kit in the trunk of your vehicle.
The California Highway Patrol reminds you don’t let the air out of your tires before you hit the road. Don’t let a flat slow you down.
