DATE/TIME: March 30, 2016/6:30 p.m.
INCIDENT: Tracking and Arrest of Suspect Clears Multiple Burglary Cases
LOCATION: Area of Highway 38 at Mill Creek Road, Big Bear Lake
SUSPECT: River Harp, 18-year-old WMA
Resident of Big Bear Lake
SUMMARY:
At approximately 6:30 p.m. on March 30, 2016, deputies of the Big Bear Sheriff’s Station responded to a residential burglary alarm in the area of State Highway 38 and Mill Creek Road. Upon arrival, deputies discovered forced entry at the residence, as well as two additional neighboring residences. Deputies tracked fresh shoe impressions in the snow for approximately one mile through rugged terrain in the forested area off Forest Service Road 2N10.
The Sheriff’s Aviation Division provided aerial support by helicopter. Using Forward Looking Infrared (FLIR) thermal imaging, aerial personnel assisted patrol deputies on the ground to track the shoe impressions to a residence in the Lakeview Pines Mobile Home Park. Deputies made contact with a male adult identified as River Harp at that location. Through investigation, Harp was determined to be the suspect in the burglaries of the three residences, as well as the suspect in an open investigation of a residential burglary that occurred approximately three weeks ago.
River Harp was arrested without incident and booked into the Big Bear Jail on felony charges of burglary. Harp remains in custody in lieu of $25,000 bail, pending an arraignment hearing scheduled for April 4.
