Arrests Made in Bicycle Burglary Case

On Thursday, March 31, 2016, at approximately 8:00am, Campbell Police Investigators executed a search warrant on Cinnabar Street in San Jose related to the multiple bicycles that were taken during a burglary at the Revere Apartments on February 21, 2016.

Based on tips that were called into the Campbell Police Department after surveillance video was released on social media, Brian Smith, 37 years old of San Jose, was identified as one of the suspects involved in the burglary. Further investigation identified the second suspect, who was seen on video opening the door to the complex, as Steven Fox, 27 years old, transient.

Investigators learned that Fox had been arrested by the San Jose Police Department on 2/21/16, several hours after the Campbell burglary, for a warrant not related to the bicycle thefts. During that arrest, Fox was found to be in possession of the stolen Ellsworth Epiphany bicycle that was valued at $3,000. Not knowing it was stolen at the time, the San Jose Police Department took the bicycle as evidence as they tried to identify the owner since they believed it to be stolen. We will be coordinating its return to the owner.

After this morning’s search warrant, Smith was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for burglary and possession of drug paraphernalia. Fox was already in custody on the unrelated warrant; however, he is being charged with burglary and possession of stolen property

Investigators are still looking into this incident and hope to recover more of the stolen bicycles.
