Operation Safety Net
As part of Operation Safety Net, the Arlington Police Department will be highlighting certain cases throughout the operation. In one particular case last week, officers responded to two aggravated robberies that detectives believe are related. The first offense occurred on Thursday, March 24, 2016 at 9:00 p.m. in the 1600 block of Patio Terrace. The second offense occurred on Saturday March 26, 2016 around 12:50 a.m. in the same area. In both cases, the victims agreed to meet up with an unknown female they met online in order to go out on a date. Once the victims arrived at the meet location, they were approached by a man who displayed a handgun and robbed both victims of jewelry and cash.
These armed robberies occurred in one of our target zones that officers have been focusing on to reduce violent crime. Investigators immediately began working these cases and determined they were linked. Detectives received a break in the case when an undercover officer arranged for a similar meeting with a female after posing on social media looking for a date. Investigators were able to locate a similar social media posting that was used in the previous robberies.
After the meeting was set up on Saturday, March 26, 2016 between the suspect and the undercover officer, personnel assigned to the task force were able to conduct a traffic stop around 11 p.m. on the suspect vehicle. A 28-year-old man, Jamal Minor of Arlington, was arrested for aggravated robbery in one of the offenses along with several felony warrants from multiple counties. He remains in the Arlington Jail.
A 29-year-old woman, Casey McVicker of Arlington, was also arrested in conjunction with the traffic stop for misdemeanor warrants. Detectives continue to investigate her possible involvement in these robberies. Officers also found a stolen handgun that was taken during a vehicle burglary on September 14, 2015 in the 1500 block of Nolan Ryan Expressway. An AK-47 was also taken during that vehicle burglary and has not been located.
Detectives obtained a search warrant for a motel room in Arlington and recovered some of the victim’s property that was taken during the Patio Terrace offenses. These cases remain under investigation. “This highlights the great work that our officers are doing to make Arlington safer. Our commitment to public safety is unwavering and we will vigorously prosecute those who commit these violent offenses in our community,” said Police Chief Will Johnson.
