New event. "High Wind Warning" from 4/2/2016 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM EDT for (including) Ripley County:
The National Weather Service in Wilmington has issued a "High Wind
Warning"... which is in effect from 3 PM this afternoon to 8 PM EDT
this evening. A Wind Advisory has also been issued. This Wind
Advisory is in effect from 8 PM to 11 PM EDT this evening.
* Timing... a strong cold front will cross the area this afternoon.
High wind gusts will occur along and immediately after the
front passes. Strong wind gusts will continue into the evening
before diminishing. Unseasonably cold air will spread across the
area tonight.
* Winds... West 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 60 mph.
* Impacts... high winds will bring down trees and power lines.
Light weight objects such as trash cans and deck furniture
should be secured. Use extreme caution while driving...
especially when cross bridges and overpasses.
* Temperatures... lows in the upper 20s.
* Impacts... unprotected outdoor plants will likely be damaged or
killed.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
Remember, a High Wind Warning means hazardous weather conditions are imminent or highly likely.
A Wind Advisory is issued when sustained winds are forecast to be
31 to 39 mph or gusts will range between 46 and 57 mph. Winds of
these magnitudes may cause minor property damage without extra
precautions. Motorists in high profile vehicles should use
caution until the winds subside.
A Freeze Warning means temperatures at or below 32 degrees
fahrenheit are imminent or highly likely in and close to the
warned area.
