Chicago Man Dies in Single Vehicle Crash on I-65
Merrillville, Lake County-A Chicago man died in a single vehicle crash, this morning, on I-65 south bound just north of 61st Avenue.
Preliminary investigation by Master Trooper Lionel Douglas revealed, at approximately 8:40a.m., this Sunday morning, a 2008 Cadillac CTS, was south bound on I-65 in the right lane near 61st Avenue, when for unknown reasons veered off to the left, went off the road, and struck the concrete median barrier wall. There were no signs that the Cadillac braked before the crash.
The driver, identified as David L. Mitchell, 60 of Chicago, Illinois but living in Lowell, Indiana at the time of the crash, was taken to South Lake Methodist Hospital in Merrillville where he pronounced dead. Mitchell may have had a medical incident prior to the crash; an autopsy is pending.
The left lane was closed for investigation of the crash, removal of the driver and his vehicle.
